Lentegeur Wildlife offers you the unique opportunity to experience an unforgettable adventure in South Africa. We offer you the possibility of a fully catered stay in the modern and progressive South African wildlife farm "Lentegeur Wildlife" in the Limpopo province. Lentegeur Wildlife has focused on the sustainable breeding and use of the native animal species of the African savannah. During your stay you will follow the practical course "Full utilization of African wildlife", you will gain in-depth exposure of working with the local wildlife in a sustainable way and gain experience with all aspects of working with and using wildlife on a South African game farm! Read on and also step into the life of a South African game farmer! Including:  Management - Hunting - Harvesting - Animal product processing. 

 

A day to day schedule of our course:

 

DAY 1: ARRIVAL

The guest (s) arrive at OR Tambo International Airport Johannesburg and are greeted at the gate by the English, Dutch and Afrikaans speaking owner of Lentegeur Wildlife or one of his recognizable family members or employees. Departure to Lentegeur Wildlife Game Farm on a 3 to 4 hour car drive. On the way a stopover for lunch or dinner (incl.), Depending on arrival time. Arrival at the farm, furnishing room and further acquaintance. No further official program.


DAY 2: INTRODUCTION WILDLIFE FARM

Theory:

  • Short information about the history of African wildlife.

  • Conditions for keeping wildlife in South Africa.

  • Necessary facilities and infrastructure.

  • Restrictions of flora and habitats.

  • Animal species present.

  • Further fauna (birds, fish and reptiles).

Practice:

  • Visit various breeding projects on the farm.

  • Introduction to the different animal species.

  • Discussion about specific characteristics and care of the species.

  • Demonstration of and discussion about necessary infrastructure and layout of a wildlife farm.

  • Influence of the African climate.


DAY 3: GAME FARMING IN PRACTICE I:

Practice morning Game farming:

  • Anesthetize, handle, loading and translocation of animal species.

Theory:

  • Feed, requirements and preparation.

  • Water requirements.

  • Rain.

  • Animal health.

  • Diseases and parasites.

  • Management of harmful organisms and pests.

  • Carrying capacity.

  • Manage population size.

  • Appoint, assess and select animals.

  • Practical layout management.

Practice:

  • Practice with small caliber weapon.


DAY 4: GAME FARMING IN PRACTICE II

Lentegeur wildlife from the air:

  • Individual round-trips over Lentgeur with owner in own bush plane.

Practice:

  • Exercise marksmanship from farm vehicle in practical situations.

  • Demonstration of subjects discussed so far

  • Feeding animals.

  • Handling and processing of calves

  • Manage facilities and infrastructure

  • Interaction with animals.

Theory: 

  • Predator and problem animals on Lentegeur.

DAY 5: SUSTAINABLE utilization

 

Theory:

  • Sustainable use of natural resources.

  • Non-consumable uses:

    • Ecotourism.

    • Life sales.

  • Consumptive uses:

    • Harvest.

    • Hunting.

    • Slaughter and process meat.

    • Other animal products.

  • Marketing.

Practice: 

  • Preparation for harvesting.

  • Getting to know and shooting weapons.

  • Visit Hunting Farm and Hunting Lodge of Lentegeur Wildlife.


DAY 6: HARVESTING IN PRACTICE

  • Addressing and selecting animals.

  • Methods of harvesting.

  • Placement of shot.

  • Preparation for harvesting.

  • Activities after harvesting.

Practice:

  • Selection of species and gender.

  • Individual animal selection.

  • Shot placement.

  • Shooting of animals.

  • Processing the animals for different types of use.

Theory:

  • Reptiles and other animals on Lentegeur Wildlife.


DAY 7: FIREARMS AND MEAT PROCESSING

Meat processing practice:

  • Skinning animals

  • Introduction to butcher's work.

  • Different end products.

  • Making meat ready for consumption,

  • Packaging and storage

 

Practice firearms:

  • Safety.

  • Meet the various weapons.

  • Handling and shooting light, medium and heavy rifles.

  • Dealing with and shooting of shotguns.

  • Dealing with and shooting of handguns.

  • Introduction reloading of ammunition.

  • Reloading practical.


DAY 8: DEPARTURE DAY

Closing the official program and handing over a beautiful certificate in which the acquired knowledge and skills are described. Furthermore no official program and free time until the time of departure. Unless guests wish to stay longer on Lentegeur Wildlife, they will be dropped off again at OR Tambo National Airport Johannesburg for their return flight or flight to one of the other beautiful places in South Africa for their further holiday. 


-ATTENTION-

- The farm life cannot always be planned. It is therefore possible to alter the program described above when the practice requires it!

- Sundays are also rest days at Lentegeur Wildlife. During Sundays no official program takes place but there is room for photo safaris, walks or relaxation on the farm. Sundays therefore also do not count towards the program.
